It is with sadness that we report that Legacy of Learning is closed.
… one of the most effective educational enrichment services in Boulder County…
I have had the pleasure of knowing and working with Iris Lee for over ten years. In addition to offering one of the most effective educational enrichment services in Boulder County, Dreamcatcher Direct Instruction Centers, Ms. Lee also founded Legacy of Learning, a nonprofit educational organization dedicated to improving the literacy and basic academic skills of Boulder County’s under-served and low-income residents. Legacy of Learning is really a reflection of who Iris Lee is and her genuine compassion for our community and those who otherwise could not afford these critical services.
When I was developing Boulder Psychological Services in 2007, I immediately reached out to Ms. Lee to help us provide high quality educational support services to our clients. While there were many other educational resources in the community, I approached Ms. Lee not just because of her exemplary services, but also because of the person that I know her to be; caring, compassionate, highly professional, and someone who always follows through with her commitments and responsibilities in a timely and effective manner. As a community, we are fortunate to have a supplemental educational service which embraces a proven, data-driven curriculum and has consistent, measurable results.
I would strongly encourage funders to support Ms. Lee’s efforts with the knowledge that their support will be effectively utilized to provide direct benefit to community members that are in need of academic support. There is no better investment than creating educational opportunities in the service of our children and others in the community. And there are no better organizations than Dreamcatcher Direct Instruction Centers and its non-profit partner, Legacy of Learning, to entrust with this mission, thanks to the proven leadership of Iris Lee.

…enthusiasm for learning…
Dreamcatcher has an extremely friendly and fun group of teachers who made my daughters’ experience there an enjoyable one. They discovered an excitement and enthusiasm for learning that they will have for the rest of their lives. The staff is truly excellent, and it is obvious that they care a great deal about their students.”
My deepest gratitude for her teacher…
THANK YOU SO MUCH for helping my daughter. My deepest gratitude for her teacher Amy. She has wonderful patience, skills and a caring attitude. There are days Stacey would rather go to Dreamcatcher to see Amy than play with her schoolmates! You have a Knack of hiring excellent instructors.
…caring teachers with a proven program…
Now, solidly into the next school year, I am almost without enough words of praise and support for the system, and overall program you offered to them. By overall program I am referring to the match of teachers with the children. The combination of caring teachers with a proven program has served my children well.
Our experience with Dreamcatcher has been exemplary. If at any time you need a recommendation for your program I am more than happy to be able to do so for you.
…success and growth…
I cannot tell you how overjoyed I am with my nephew’s success and growth under the leadership of the staff at Dreamcatcher. Dreamcatcher has transformed a low self-esteem child who hated school and reading into an empowered young man who enjoys reading to himself and others.
I thank Dreamcatcher for assisting this unique and special boy to be successful.
…concrete difference in many youth’s lives.
I have known Iris Lee, the Executive Director of Legacy of Learning, for over 10 years and witnessed first-hand her dedication and pervasive passion for helping underprivileged youth through Legacy of Learning. Her determination and creativity to keep Legacy of Learning going knows no bounds. It’s easy to understand as I’ve seen the concrete difference it has made in many youth’s lives.
…incredibly valuable organization.
Legacy of Learning is an incredibly valuable organization. They reliably produce real results and change lives of children. They are especially valuable to the most vulnerable of children. Kids who had been told that they were “dyslexic” or had other “learning disabilities” were quickly brought up to grade level, and after that would find that they no longer met the criteria for “special education.” This was an enormous, life changing boost to their confidence, and a visible catalyst to further success.
I have more confidence in myself
I love Legacy of Learning. It has been a BIG help. I have more confidence in myself and I can write messages to my mom on my cell phone when I need to. It is so cool. I can spell good now. I was so bad at spelling I would go to class and sit in the back of the class and stay quiet and if the teacher asked me to read out to the class I would say “no way.” The teacher would say, “If you say no again, you need to leave the class,” and I would leave. Kids would think I was bad. I’m not, I was just not a good reader and I’m not a bad kid I think. Well thank you so much for helping me. And thank you Nikki, for your time and help and confidence in me. And thank you Laura and Iris for your kind hearts.Thank you!
Legacy of Learning makes me feel smart.
I want to thank you for supporting me and helping me do better in school. I used to hate school. It was boring, and I felt stupid at the end of the day. Coming to Legacy of Learning makes me feel smart. I feel like I know what I am doing. I have learned to read and write and do math at the center, I am getting A’s and B’s now instead of D’s and F’s. When I was diagnosed with ADHD in elementary school, I was put in special education. Now I am in 11th grade, and I am no longer in Special Ed. I also get my homework done and hand it in early.Michael, my teacher at Legacy, has helped me so much that I am one of the best students in my class. I used to hate reading and writing, but now I read for pleasure. Last year, I received an award for top Language Arts sophomore, which was given to 3 out of 300 students. I was so excited. Thanks to Legacy of Learning I am more confident, and I want to go to college and I know I will have a better future. Please share this letter with anyone who has doubts about coming here. Thank you all.
Always be grateful
I was tired of the wrestling, the arguing, the resistance, and the fighting that goes with a severely dyslexic and ADHD child. It is the pain of seeing a child so sensitive and intuitive, so bright, endearing and funny, get hammered down a bit more each day as his failures outnumber his achievements. You said you would teach him to read, and you did. I will always be grateful for the help.
Must be a better way
Your program has been everything it promised! My son was in the 2nd Grade and was very frustrated because he could not read. The school decided Ritalin was the only solution. I knew there must be a better way to teach my son. Legacy of Learning has been a miracle! Within weeks, my son began reading.
Because of Direct Instruction, she can learn.
Alex, even with years of special education, could not do her homework. Because of Legacy’s support, she has progressed to 5th Grade (from 2nd Grade) and continues to accelerate. How wonderful to have a place where the child is put first! She can read, she can learn, and it’s because of Direct Instruction.
