POWERING YOUR CHILD’S PATH TO SUCCESS:

A 9-Week Executive Function Brain Training Program

Lori Kochevar, LPC, founder of Brighten the Brain is collaborating with Dreamcatcher Learning Center to offer this unique approach to resolving your child’s learning challenges.

UPDATE THE BRAIN’S “HARDWARE”…

Using Neurofeedback brain training, and games that target specific brain functions, we will increase your child’s ability to excel at learning. Neurofeedback brain training helps strengthen the rate and quality of neuro-communication between the back brain and the frontal lobe, allowing quicker access to the cognitive mind to make well thought out decisions.

And…UPDATE THE BRAIN’S “SOFTWARE”

As Neurofeedback creates a healthier, more effective nervous system, your child will learn proven strategies to enhance their learning and study skills, so that they can perform at their true level. This training will draw from the acclaimed SMARTS Executive Function Curriculum, developed by ResearchILD, and informed by the research conducted at the Institute for Learning and Development. With SMARTS, students develop the self-understanding to know which strategies work for them as well as why, where, when and how to use strategies to complete their homework, to plan for long-term projects, and to study for tests.

And…SUPPORT YOUR CHILD’S SUCCESS

Online, on-demand Parent Trainings will teach parents how to best support your “out-of-the-box” thinkers. You will explore topics such as Neurofeedback 101; Introduction to Executive Functions; Memory & Learning; Effects of Media on Social-Emotional Intelligence; Stress & Trauma Recovery; and more.

More about Direct Instruction – Philosophy, Assumptions, Effectiveness

This was the largest and most expensive experiment in education funded by the U.S. federal government ever conducted. The most extensive evaluation of Follow Through data covers the years 1968-1977; however, the program continued to receive funding from the government until 1995.
Direct Instruction showed more significant gains than any other model examined. Kids learned better academic and problem-solving skills, and their self-esteem was raised through use of this teaching methodology. Continue Reading

The Data Show the Direct Instruction Teaching Method Really Works!

“If the child hasn’t learned, the teacher hasn’t taught.” That’s the philosophy behind Direct Instruction, an educational technique that challenges the mantras of modern bureaucrats and shows that even the most disadvantaged children can excel, if only schools will teach them. And the evidence for the success of Direct Instruction is much more than anecdotal: major long-term studies provide powerful evidence of its success, and disturbing evidence for the futility of the more popular techniques that dominate our schools.
