Over time, Legacy recognized that students were struggling with more issues than academics.
Representing a variety of ethnic backgrounds and learning histories, these youths have fallen behind in school and run the risk of being marginalized by society. Most of our students wrestle with higher order thinking skills, have low self-esteem, and suffer from repetitive cycles of failure.
Our new collaboration is the SPARK Program™ (Suspension Prevention and Reduction Knowledge.) By incorporating “the whole child approach” we will significantly make a difference in improving school readiness, closing the achievement gap, decreasing drop-out and increasing graduation rates.
SPARK is directed by Mindy Logan, Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Addiction Counselor, with 7 years’ experience working with Boulder Valley School District.
SPARK and Legacy Of Learning will engage students in learning by utilizing the Social Responsibility Training, (SRT) curriculum. SRT facilitates constructive self-examination and questioning of behavior and attitudes connected to self-defeating conduct and imperfect school, family, parenting and community strategies.
SPARK addresses the importance of staying in school through Restorative Justice: parents, teens and teachers will move towards stronger, better-connected relationships. The opportunity to combine a strong, proven academic program with an additional emphasis on social, emotional, physical and psychological healing, is extraordinary. This relationship gives us an advantage in addressing the needs of our most vulnerable students.
The goal is for students to be fully prepared to transition out of high school with confidence, so that they can advance in secondary education or find meaningful employment. The objective is to keep these students in school and prepare them to be responsible and self-reliant members of society.
